Toshiba has launched the world’s first dual touch screen e-book laptop to mark the 25th anniversary of the company. The laptop named Libretto W100, weighs just 819 grams and runs on Windows Platform. One screen can be used to read books just like an E-Reader. Libretto W100 can be used both ways, either horizontal or vertical. If you hold it vertically, you can effortlessly read a book on a intuitive interface. On the other hand if you hold it horizontally, it functions like a laptop. There is also a virtual keyboard to input data.

The BrainPort is a vision device funded by the National Eye Institute

The BrainPort operates by acquiring an image stream from a camera, similar to a camcorder. Like a camcorder, the moving images are sent to a display, which, in this case, is the electrode array on the tongue. The image stream is displayed on the tongue by converting light information to electrical stimulation, which feels like microscopic bubbles to the user. With minimal training, users learn to interpret the images on their tongue as information about the scene in front of them.

The military is a developing a humanoid, Petman, which will test chemical protection clothing for the US Army. Boston Dynamics, famous for its robotic pack mule BigDog, has the responsibility of developing Petman to a level where it can not just walk and stand on its own feet but can even react like humans. When exposed to chemical war agents, the Petman would do a variety of suit-stressing movements by simulating human responses of temperature control, humidity and even sweating (when the need be) within the suit.
